No longer just a stop-over point on your way to somewhere else, the Matanuska Valley is a destination in itself, offering more peace and quiet, with beautiful glaciers, such as; Matanuska Glacier and Knik Glacier, trails, mountains, rivers, and lakes in abundance - and less of the hustle and crowds of other tourist destinations in Alaska. The Matanuska Valley is superb! All of this easily accessible from your own fully self-contained, private, and peaceful cabin at Hatcher Pass Bed & Breakfast.
There is an abundance of hiking trails, gold panning in the Little Su River, berry picking in August/September, bike riding, and touring Independence Gold Mine. In the winter snowmachining, cross and back-country skiing and in any season relaxing and enjoying the incredible sights of the Talkeetna Mountains.
Enjoy the Musk Ox Farm, Reindeer Farm, Valley vegetable farms, numerous hiking trails, Knik Glacier, sightseeing flights, Colony House, Palmer Visitor's Center, and the Alaska State Fair in August - to name a few of the recreational opportunities of the area.
Visit the Iditarod Headquarters, Alaska Transportation Museum, Alaska Railroad Depot, and Dorothy Page Museum. Further up the Parks Highway, enjoy the vast array of lakes of Big Lake and the Nancy Lakes areas, and the fish the salmon runs on the various rivers that the Parks Highway crosses. Visit the quaint town of Talkeetna, and weather permitting enjoy beautiful sights of Mt. McKinley - even take a flight seeing trip around the "Great One".
